scenes from a french town...

Tarascon, on the banks of the Rhone river, is about 20 or so km south of Avignon and approximately the same from Arles which means that it is pretty close to me. It is not on the tourist map although the old town itself has much history and pretty architecture to recommend it. I often go on a Tuesday because that is market day and the market in Tarascon is worthy of a visit. It is not as comprehensive a market as the Wednesday market in St Remy, but more of a basics and food market. I like to buy the more exotic herbs and spices available, as many of the vendors come from northern Africa.

Tarascon is one of those towns that has avoided popularity...it doesn't have the smart shops and perky brasseries....Tarascon hasn't made it into many of the Provencal guide books....Perhaps Tarascon is ready and ripe for discovery.......xv
