English Immersion - An Colorful Twist in a Truly British Home

For kicks, I wanted to share this colorful and totally over the top English 

home.  I can't say that I could live in a place like this home but I certainly

would stay in a place like this as a guest or an upscale bed and breakfast.

The decor really makes me feel as if I'm in a different era.

It's like a home that belongs in a book or novel.

It has that feel and ambiance to it.

Antique furnishings paired with a super saturated Yellow.

Old paintings, vintage blankets and lamps...

Plates, vases and chests...One can tell the owner of this home is

definitely a collector.  It's definitely one way to showcase everything -

cover the entire wall with collections.

Take a look at the huge arrow above the bed.  If anything, 

the owners are very consistent in their style and taste.

And the grand finale.  This room totally looks like it comes from another

time and era.  I would love visiting a room like this.  I can imagine for kids,

they would be exploring all the things in the room.  The floor is nearly 

entirely covered with rugs of all sizes - it's really incredible.  It really 

transports one to another sort of reality - feels like a room from the past 

and it looks like it's a room filled with history.  I can't say that I'd live in a 

place like this but it certainly sparks the imagination which is something

I love about it and the reason I wanted to share it.

Wary Meyers' Tossed & Found and A Brooklyn Pad

This is the 3rd post I've done on a design of husband and wife team

 Wary Meyers.  There is something raw about their eclectism that makes

the homes and pads they design look like a place that is very much so

lived in and not designed for just aesthetics alone.

This Brooklyn pad looks very much so lived in and features many found and

recycled objects which is something Wary Meyers' incorporates into all of

their designs.

Many of their designs incorporate midcentury modern

pieces which seems to be a favorite era for them. 

They are fun in that they do not neglect any part of a room.  Take

a look at the painting hanged under the eave of the staircase.

I love this painted Plexi glass back splash in this super mod bright yellow. 

I'm not a huge fan of yellow but I'm really finding that I really like this

particular hue.

Wary Meyers often like to use found objects including

this piece of salvaged wood that is used as a shelf.

The large words on the bunk bed add a bit of whimsy to the room.

Mixing it up with a textured wall.

What a fantastic focal point for the dining area.

The stenciled wall looks aged - just the right touch for the color and pattern

so it doesn't look to bright or stark to the eye.  The aged look softens it. 

Wary Meyers' Tossed & Found

I also found out that the husband and wife team recently

released a book September of 2009.  In the book they

show different ideas of how they use found objects to

refashion and repurpose them into really creative objects

for the home.  I highly recomend it.

Here's a sneak peak including this fantastic black and white dresser they

painted ebony.    By adhering white wooden words onto the dresser for

a 3-D effect, it really make the dresser into a dramatic piece where it

was otherwise a very mundane dresser.  Check the book out at Amazon.

Shelter Design & blog - Julie Richard's Home

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year.

I found out about Julie Richard's home through Absolutely Beautiful
Things.  Julie Richard is an interior designer north of Boston.  Her design 

firm and blog is called Shelter.  I absolutely fell in love with her home.  

My own design taste falls very similar to hers in that it is eclectic.  

Definitely check out her post for more photos.  In the meantime, here's 

a sneak peak.  Love this chair above with the plush velvet and silver nail 

heads.  The pillows are so fun!

Love the midcentury modern styled lamp bases and the white fish vase!  

I actually have the same exact Fleur de Lys mercury glasses. 

  

Julie completely overhauled this small console.  She lacquered it black 

and replaced the hardware with chinoise influenced handles.  Totally

gorgeous.

  

The small vases have such gorgeous color - 

especially juxtaposed next to the roses.

One of my favorite things is Julie's Inspiration board.  Just awesome.

Kishani Perera ~ Fabulous L.A. based Interior Designer

Kishani Perera is one of my favorite designers.  She is based out of L.A.  She first caught my attention when I saw the New York Soho apartment that she designed for Molly Sim.  More recently, she worked on this L.A. atelier's home.  I just love the use of vivid colors in her design.  It's difficult to get just the right hue and she did just that here with the walls and the ceiling.  The fun cover on the bed was purchased from Maryam of Marakesh's store.

Nothing makes a room pop like a bunch of fresh flowers.

Kishani has a wonderful sense of not only color, but being

able to blend eclectic styles and vintage furnishings together.

I love the arched window in this home - it lets so much light in.

I had to take a moment to really study this bathroom.  The wallpaper really makes this bathroom a "wow" factor.  It's interesting to see the tiles in small pieces where many times most of us are most accustomed to seeing large format tiles on the floor.

By leaving the ceiling white, the dark

color does not overwhelm this bathroom.

When in fact, it is a gorgeous hue of peacock blue.

Isn't the chandelier just rocking?

Now that is one Huge lamp shade!

Who says the outside shouldn't be just as stylish as the inside. 

Love the organic wood table and especially the very long sofa!

Selena Lake ~ Bohemian Style with Colorful Vintage and Thrift Finds

Selina Lake is a very talented Interior Stylist based out of the UK.

Her rooms and table settings are filled with eclectic color and style.

Here's a very pretty green and white

pretty pinks and mauves on the table

for a pop of color.

The wallpaper behind the sideboard is brilliant!

No one ever really thinks to use their own clothes

as art. The dress above this sofa is draped beautifully

to serve as a piece of wall art. It's fantastic.

A lovely bedroom brightened by

prints from the owner's dresses.

Isn't the fringe on the umbrella so cute?

Selina Lake really proves that you can throw

just about any texture or print together.

I wish I had a backyard like this to hang around in.

It's a lot of fun to go to thrift shops or flea

markets to buy mismatching tabletop pieces.
All the different shades of pink really go well

together here.
