Campion Platt - Fabulous NYC Architect and Designer

I'm really not sure what took me so long to discover the New York
City based architect and designer Campion Platt.  His designs are
utterly gorgeous!  Not to mention that he has a great eye for space
planning and colors as you can see from the above image.  This is
New York City apartment and he has really put the available space
in the open living space to good use.  A signature of Platt's is luxury
and texture.  He always pays attention to fabric and texture.  The
above space not only looks chic but it looks very cozy.

Another look at that fabulous blue couch.

And the backs of the lush blue velvet chairs.

The dining area save space by using a cozy banquette
seating.  I totally want one of these for my own nook.

A statement piece of artwork
hangs above a cool console.

Built-ins in the study.

The study has orange as main color with the
seating and as an accent color in the lamp
and pillows.

Here is the second bedroom and the size of the bedroom is
really nice for NYC.  I adore the mirrored tri-level end
table used in this room.  Where can I get one?

And the master piece - the master bedroom which has gorgeous
large windows, a fluffy white bed and a comfortable yet chic
looking curved sofa.  What a great use of space.  Different
functions without the room feeling crowded with storage and
cabinets lining the wall underneath the windows.  This
bedroom has such a light, airy and cozy feel to it.

Outdoor space in NYC is always coveted and this condo has the
perfect amount of balcony space - enough for comfortable chairs,
table and champagne of course.  I'm now officially a fan of
Campion Platt's work.  What were things you particularly liked
in the design of this condo?

Miles Redd's New York City Townhome

Recently, I did a post on sofas and couches that Miles Redd has used
in his designs.  The subject of this post is Miles Redd's own New York
City town home.  What a fantastic facade don't you think?  Superchic
with monotone paint, striped awnings and European style shutters that
frame the outside of all the windows.

The door is painted in a very pretty Robin's Egg sort of blue.

This kitchen has got to be one of the most ogled kitchens on the web.
And of course, it belongs to none other than Miles Redd.  I'm not even
a fan of black kitchens and I'm in complete awe of this one.  Lacquered
black walls and cabinets with a unique countertop material - glass.  It's
not very practical but it sure is unique.  I bet it made you look twice.  The
flooring is gorgeous as are the lamps he used under the cabinets.

State of the art appliances including a TV monitor built in.

A look from above those glass countertops.

Miles always pays special attention to doors and these zebra covered
doors with nail head trimming is no different.  Super fun and chic.
Here's that gorgeous crimson tufted corner sectional I just drool over.

It makes one at least consider pink as a paint color
even if one has never considered it before.

Here's a beautiful photo of Miles REdd's bedroom.
A picture that captures a gorgeous mood.

The same bedroom with Miles Redd on his own bed.
I love that he tufted the headboard all the way to the top.

The bedroom leads to a completely mirrored dressing room and bathroom.

Talk about stepping into a fantasy.  You'd probably imagine a dressing
like this would belong to an old Hollywood silent film star.

You can see the sink and vanity from here and the marble encased
bath tub in the mirror opposite of the vanity.  Totally over the top.
I'm not entirely sure I could live in a room covered entirely in
mirrors but it's a cool room to check out.

When it comes to Miles REdd's outdoor space, it is absolutely
like a dream - straight out of a fantasy.  I love the color palette
and all of the things he has done with it.

Simply amazing with the turquoise Trompe-l'oeil trellis which is
out of this world.  The black and white harlequin patterend floors
really finishes the space off.

A Gambrel Designed Long Island Waterside Beach Home

I'm a big fan of Steven Gambrel in general.  We see a lot of photos of his
work shared over and over again.  What amazing talent.  This house is
next to the water near the ocean, a lake and an inlet so it's very much in
context to use a lot of blues and greens through the house.  I love all of
the architectural detail and floor to ceiling bookshelf installations in this
family room.

Love the over sized water bottle to the side of the bench.

A galley kitchen with clean lines.
Here's the formal dining area.  Aren't the round seat cushions cute?

Love the large scale photo on the wall.  Gambrel always has
great wall installations.  An X bench with nail heads?  Love it!

Here are more of those blues and greens I was talking
about.  What a lovely green he chose for the walls.
The blues and greens carry on into the bedroom.

What a gorgeous kid's room.

What a YUMMY bathroom!  I'm definitely drooling.  I've always
wanted big windows in the bathroom.  You can't go wrong with
marble in a bathroom.  I'm also a fan of gray, it's such a great
neutral color that can paired just about any other color palette.
You can pair gray with colors to make a space look feminine or
masculine.  For example pink and gray is a bit feminine while
gray and canary yellow could be used for a more masculine feel.

What a comfy looking couch in this living space.
I'm a sucker for a tufted sofas.
And of course being near the water, a house is not complete without
a sun room or an outdoor space where one can dine with family and
friends.

What is your favorite room from this house and why?

If you like Steven Gambrel's type of design, his work is
found in this book:  New Spaces Old World Charm.  The
book has a great collection of homes that were designed
in the style just as the title suggests.  Here's a peak at some
of the spaces in the book.  Definitely check the book out if
you like this style.

I leave you this week with a special from an artist I know that has really
fantastic art that is perfect to use in any room or hall for that matter!  His
name is Harrison Howard and some of his work reminds of me the older
classical Chinoise style from the Europeans.  Either way, you must check
out his site.  25% off on all Limited Edition prints from now until
November 5, 2010.  To take advantage of the offer, you must email
Howard with your selections (not through the shopping cart.)

Palmer Weiss' Home in San Francisco

Palmer Weiss is a fantastic interior designer who is based in
San Francisco.  Her home was recently featured in Lonny
magazine.  I first noticed her work when she created a teenage
girl's bedroom for the San Francisco Decorator's Showcase one
year.  Her use of color and chic-ness floored me and I proceeded
to dedicate a post to that room.  Palmer Weiss beautifully blends
modern colors with traditional furniture in a sensible way that
works for today.  I love the color that she chose for the wall in
her living room above.

Her dining room is neutral with pops of green.  My favorite thing in this
room is the green geometric and trellis like fabric she used on the more
traditional sitting chairs next to the console.

Here's a closer look at those gorgeous chairs.  She manages to
include many of my favorite types of pieces - garden stools,
gorgeous gold framed mirror and green Foo dogs statues.

The art piece is truly the statement piece here.  The lamp
really compliments and draws out the red in the painting.

Palmer is certainly lucky to have a husband who feels
comfortable enough with a purple floral headboard!

Their master bedroom has many cozy and personal items such
as family photos, bright sunlight and another gorgeous lamp.

I really think she has a knack for children's room because I
don't even like orange and I really love what she has done
with her children's bedroom.  Softly pink with a splash of
orange (from her daughters' favorite baseball team the San
Francisco Giants.)  The room is simple yet fun.  Love the
oversized portraits of the girls above each of the headboards.

Grass cloth for the walls is the perfect way to hide holes when
a lot of art and other things need to be tacked onto the walls.
It's a great solution that Weiss has come up with for a playroom.

Weiss also loves mid-century modern furniture and things from
that era.  The yellow side tables really make great a great coffee
table substitute in this case.  She's really great at weaving color
in without making one feel overwhelmed by it.  Her rooms are
always soothing.

Annie Kelly has done a previous book called Rooms to Inspire
which is absolutely fantastic.  Since Palmer Weiss' home is in
the city, I thought it would be fitting to share this book which has
more inspirational rooms from homes in cities.

So what do you think of Palmer Weiss' home?  What elements
of her style would you copy or steal?

Palmer was gracious and very kind to let me interview her about
the teenage bedroom she designed previously.  If you haven't had a
chance to see it, make sure you check out the room she designed here.
