English Immersion - An Colorful Twist in a Truly British Home

For kicks, I wanted to share this colorful and totally over the top English
home.  I can't say that I could live in a place like this home but I certainly
would stay in a place like this as a guest or an upscale bed and breakfast.
The decor really makes me feel as if I'm in a different era.

It's like a home that belongs in a book or novel.

It has that feel and ambiance to it.

Antique furnishings paired with a super saturated Yellow.

Old paintings, vintage blankets and lamps...

Plates, vases and chests...One can tell the owner of this home is
definitely a collector.  It's definitely one way to showcase everything -
cover the entire wall with collections.

Take a look at the huge arrow above the bed.  If anything,
the owners are very consistent in their style and taste.

And the grand finale.  This room totally looks like it comes from another
time and era.  I would love visiting a room like this.  I can imagine for kids,
they would be exploring all the things in the room.  The floor is nearly
entirely covered with rugs of all sizes - it's really incredible.  It really
transports one to another sort of reality - feels like a room from the past
and it looks like it's a room filled with history.  I can't say that I'd live in a
place like this but it certainly sparks the imagination which is something
I love about it and the reason I wanted to share it.

A penny for your thoughts on this place?

A Tour of a Gorgeous Home and Backyard - London Chic

I hope everyone had a fantastic 3 day weekend!

I love the different color stories in this chic London home.  Every room
in this home has a fireplace which is fabulous.  Sometimes, it's hard enough
to find a house with even one fireplace.  It's actually quite an eclectic room,
but one doesn't really notice because of how well it's tied together with the
color palette.  You've got a wicker bed with a midcentury modern dresser and
two gorgeous ornate gold mirrors.

Here's another view of the room.

Let's go back to the beginning and start at the entrance of this
wonderful home.  It's interesting how the designers put two
skinny lamps on the radiator (radiator is used almost like a
super slim console table with an over sized mirror on top.

A look into the sitting room.

The cozy sitting room is nice and bright with
neutral colors for the walls and drapes.

This home is interesting because it has a sitting area and a
living room next to each other.  No television in either room.

On we go to the kitchen which has clean lines and a
simple off white color palette with an open dining area.

I love the different fabrics and patterns on the
chairs as well as the over sized painting.

The wallpaper in this bedroom is just stunning.  Notice the railing
high up on the wall - not a chair rail.  There's no rule against putting
railing like this higher on the wall - it draws the eye upwards.

Another look at the same room.

Isn't this a light and spacious bathroom and vanity area?
I adore bathrooms with lots of lighting and it is unusual
to have such large windows in a bathroom.  This room
was probably made to be a bedroom but was made into
a bathroom instead - just brilliant.

A closer look at the wallpaper.

This house as a fantastic backyard.

Isn't the space just dreamy?  Like a secret garden.

What a great area to have a friend over to have tea with and hang out.

If you enjoyed this tour and are looking for any books about
homes in London, this might be a good one to check out:

Hope you enjoyed this tour.  Which room was your favorite
and why?

Another Church Conversion ~ We Turned a Church Into a Home - Part II

About 2 and a half weeks ago, I did a post on a church conversion that
resulted in a fantastic discussion in the comments section.  It was really
interesting to see the various opinions and takes on turning a type of
building like a church that has held religious and symbolic meaning
for many into a home.

I managed to find another church conversion to showcase.  This one is
noticeably more modern in it's architectural elements than the church in
my previous post.

Most older churches have impressive ceiling
height and this building does not disappoint.

You can see from the renovations that an entire wall was taken out to be
lined with floor to ceiling glass doors.  It makes the place very bright and
airy. What a fantastic and open place to hang out in for a living room.

The space is used in a completely modern way with an open plan living
space where the living room, dining room and kitchen are share the same
space.

In the corner is a wonderful grand piano with an ornate music sheet stand.

You can tell from this shot, the eaves under the slanted roof of the church.
White washing all of the walls really help give the space a further feeling of
airiness.  Check out the wacky modern floors.

Here's a close up of the kitchen area.

The side of the kitchen area has a fabulous diva-like fushcia chaise.

In this photo you can see just how the ceilings are in this building.

Here's a partitioned off area for a lounging area.

The way to the bathroom.

I love the trio of windows in the bathroom.

The same pattern of windows in a bedroom.  This bedroom looks
absolutely fantastic if I do say so myself.  It's a room that would
make me feel secure, comforted and safe.

A pink - more feminine bedroom.

The same bedroom from another angle.  The
small bed and miniature chair are so cute.

Last but not least is the courtyard outside which is very tastefully done.  So
what do you think of this conversion?  If any of you saw my earlier post,
any different feelings this conversion evoke compared to the other one?  If
you missed it, you can find the first church conversion post I did here.

Bohemian Chic Meets the Modern Marie Antoinette

I simply couldn't resist sharing this British home with all of you.  I first
discovered the site 1st Option via MadebyGirl.  1st Option is a British
company that scouts locations for photo shoots and tv/film production.
Isn't the above room like a fantasy room for a girl?  The phrase
"Bohemian Chic meets the Modern Marie Antoinette" really encapsulates
the feel of this home for me.

Notice the pink carpet that runs throughout the house.  Pink is
what I consider a pretty bold choice for carpet throughout a home.

And the wonderful turquoise walls with gold painted molding.

The gold frame and color of the fabric on the telephone
chair really bring out the brilliant hue of the turquoise walls.

Now this is where the style seems to deviate a bit.  The color
palette with the vivid pink falls in step with the turquoise,
however the white tiles and dark grout and black toilet top
scream 80's to me.

The living room seems to be a hodge podge of different colors,
furniture styles and patterns yet it doesn't completely clash.  Fun
colors on the chairs and sofa.  The pair of black chairs at the end
remind me of crowns - chairs that are fit for a king and queen.

Last but not least is the fantastic dining room with the fabulous
oversized portrait painting against a black floral wallpaper.  Again,
I love the brilliant gold frames against the wallpaper and a fun
mirrored table.

I hope you've enjoyed this house as much as I have.
