An Attic Inspiration Filled with Color & A Dine in Kitchen

This is an attic that Samantha Pynn of Pure Design made
over. It's one of the brightest and fun attics I've ever seen.
The family living in the home already had a very bohemian
and eclectic style with bright pops of color all over the house.
They wanted the same for their attic. Samantha really turned
the space around into a wonderful play space for the kids and
a wonderful family space to hang out in.

Here's the before photo. A far cry
from the finished room isn't it?

I would not have imagined such a fun and colorful space for
the end result. From the lime green sofa to the gorgeous
vintage bergere chair in the corner that was recovered.

A new sitting area and storage built out
for the kids in the oddly shaped space
under the window really was the perfect
solution.

The family already had bright pieces of
artwork that fit right in. Isn't the round
coffee table cute? I love the texture of
the flooring.

All of the doors from the attic to an outside
deck were replaced. The result is an absolutely
wonderful infusion of light.

Project #2 in this post is a kitchen makeover that Samantha
Pynn did also on HGTV. Here's the before photo of a very
plain and not so inspiring kitchen.

This was a wonderful budget makeover.
The cabinets were kept and instead the
top and bottom cabinets repainted in
contrasting black and white.

The ceiling was painted for depth with
recessed lighting installed. I'm a huge
fan of recessed lighting. People often
forget what a huge impact lighting has
in a room.

Bright pillows on the bench really help
brighten up the space as a whole.

The built in shelving and wood panels really give the room
some architectural detail in an otherwise plain room. The
paneling helps balances out the cabinets on the opposite wall.
Bright blue draperies replace the plain white sheers to infuse
the room with some much needed energy.

Hope these make-overs have given you some inspiration for
your own rooms! Are any of you planning any projects this
summer to perhaps revamp a room or space?

HGTV's Pure Design and Samantha Pynn - A Feminine Space

One of my favorite shows on HGTV right now is
Pure Design which is hosted and designed by Samantha
Pynn. She is absolutely brilliant with texture, color - not
to mention everything she does is green and eco-friendly.

I totally loved this space that she redesigned for a mother
and her young daughter. It's got enough whimsy and romance
for her daughter, yet is still sophisticated enough for adults and
entertaining.

Projects include keeping and repainting her dining table and
china cabinet as well as reupholstering some furniture.

The fireplace was totally repainted and the
furniture recovered in bright and fun fabrics.

A window bench was built in
with storage underneath.

A light and neutral gray on the walls provided the
perfect backdrop. The chandeliers provided the
perfect touch of glam.

I really love this wood stump
that serves as an end table.

The china cabinet was really old fashioned,
but a new coat of paint really did wonders for
it. It was repainted in a powder blue-gray.

In the dining area, Samantha covered the entire
wall with personal photos printed and framed in
black and white. Just stunning.

I've totally fallen in love with Samantha Pynn's
designs and so I'll be showing more of them.

$500 Room Makeovers

This is one of my favorite budget design books.
Full of fun projects and room designs of all sorts.

HGTV's Before & After Decorating

HGTV has some pretty good publications and
the Before & After book is no exception. There's
some really great ideas in this book and it's really
reasonably priced.

More Inspiration from HGTV - Beautiful Rooms

I thought I would share more brilliant rooms from HGTV.
I'm inexplicably drawn to the room above. It's so soothing,
tasteful and sophisticated. Can you imagine living in a room
like that? Your environment can truly influence how you feel.
Being someone whose moods are very much influenced by
the weather, I truly believe so.

I love the cream sofa with all of the different textures.
The zebra rug gives the room an extra edge.

Citrus colors have really grabbed my attention
as of late and so has this living room!

I just love how dramatic the colors and lighting are
in this room. Lighting really makes a difference in
the mood of a room.

Orange is a color that gives off such energy...Yet when
paired with muted colors, can strike a wonderful balance.

Green can be such a soothing and
fresh color at the same time.

This bathroom is certainly dramatic with contrasting
patterns on the floor and lacquered walls.

Whoever says claw feet are old
fashioned is totally wrong.

What a sophisticated and polished dining space.

A very contemporary but striking room. Who
says green and red have to be for Christmas?
They are complementary colors and look very
good together.

This was one of David Bromstead's more surprising
dining rooms he created. I really loved the juxtaposition
of ultra cool metallic finishes in a very traditional
Victorian home.

This entire bathroom seems to be one piece of art.
The walls are simply amazing!

Can I please have that bed? I'm
always in love with tufted pieces.

Hope this has given some ideas and
inspiration for your home and space.
