Blue by House Beautiful

House Beautiful recently released a beautiful small book simply called 

Blue.  It has an edited collection of rooms decorated with the color

blue.  I know blue is a soothing color and a favorite of many people.

The volume looks to be cloth covered and has great photos for ideas

and inspiration for anyone looking to use blue for their rooms or as

an accent color.  Not all of the images in this post are in the book but

most of them are.  The book is available through Amazon at a great

price.

 House Beautiful has been putting out some scrumptious publications

on blue rooms.  This is the March 2010 issue that focused on blue

rooms from last year.

 

  

This is one of my all time favorite bathrooms (in the book Blue.)  It is

 a blue and white modern interpretation of a Moroccan bathroom.  I 

love everything about it from the river stone floors to the details and

blue tiles.

 

The rug and chair make this bathroom feel cozy.

A bathroom that is also a dressing room.  I always wanted a 

blended bathroom and dressing room.  Alas, there is no room.

There's no other word to describe this blue other than fresh.

I'd stay in this bedroom any day.

 Who says one can't squeeze furniture into a small room?

Nesting Newbies Issue 4 - Another Fantastic Issue - Food, Entertaining, Decor, Celebrities and More!

 

 This issue of Nesting Newbies was especially meaning for me as I had 

the honor of meeting not only Jodi and Lea (Editor and Founders of 

Nesting Newbies magazine), but also other bloggers in the San 

Francisco area as well.  It was a perfect day in the perfect spot - a 

simply gorgeous winery in the Santa Cruz mountains called Thomas

Fogharty (great wine as well.)  To top it off, the decor was modern 

Moroccan and we all got to sample food from Chef Lea who is

amazingly talented.

If any of you are in or near the San Francisco area and love design 

and fantastic food, you'll be to see Chef Lea do a live demonstration

at the San Francisco Design Center on October 20, 2010.  Just look 

up Culinarium and the schedule for her demonstration.

 

 Sampling food and drinking wine together - the best!

 

  I can't tell you in words how much I LOVED this dressing.  I wanted

to pour it on literally Everything!  I was really close to practically 

drinking it... It is one of the best salad dressing I've ever had (and

I don't say that lightly as I take my food seriously.) 

 

Since the recipe is now published, I will need to make it.

 

 

 The most creative item on the menu were Chef Lea's BaklaPops.

Aren't they adorable?  They're good too - not just for looks.  What's

really neat about the Nesting Newbies magazine is that they take 

full advantage of online media by also embedding videos into their

magazine issues.  There is a step by step guide on how to make these

BaklaPops - not too long but covers all of the details.  It's great.

Eco-Rustic table styling.  Definitely reminiscent of wine country.

 

 Gorgeous pops of colors.

 

 This issue was particularly fun in that the articles have expanded to 

cover all sorts of stories including a woman who travels around in her

vintage Airstream and documents it.

 

And of course, what we all love to see - gorgeous interiors.

 

 

 Color inspiration...

 

 

 And creativity that combines budget and high end items such as 

this fab kitchen.  Can you believe the cabinets are IKEA?  CaesarStone

countertops and a high end Viking range.  Nothing wrong with mixing

hi end with budget finishes.

 

 

 The kitchen opens up to a pass through dining room.  I love

the eclecticness of the home and especially the oversized

salmon colored bulldog painting.

There is a great feature article on Michelle Workman who is an interior 

designer to the stars in Hollywood.  Think John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez,

Kirstie Alley... They all love working with her because she works with

them to create a style they love and is personal to them.  This bathroom

was for a client who loves bold and sparkly!  Michelle says the inspiration

is "Dorothy Draper goes Avant-Guarde!"

You should definitely check out the issue as there are a ton more articles

ranging from celebries to entertaining and design.  There is something 

for everyone.

New York City Based Designer Brad Ford's Manhattan Apartment

I really love the way earth tones are used in this apartment.  Brad Ford is a New 

York City based designer whose Manhattan apartment is showcased in this post.

The natural light coming into the apartment is just fantastic.  

There is really no substitute for natural sunlight in a home.

I love the interesting image on the wall and I adore

the velvet covered modern styled Scandinavian chair

even more.

The organic looking wood pieces of furniture in the living 

space really helps the place feel more homey and inviting.

Space is a commodity in Manhattan and this is a nicely laid

out open floor plan for a modest kitchen and a great dining

space.

What a fantastic table setting.  It has a very natural and organic

vibe to it - the aesthetic reminds me of a lot of ceramics and table 

settings that are used in Japan.  Understated elegance in a natural and 

organic sort of way.

Another interesting photo at the top of the kitchen cabinets 

and having a lower table in the kitchen area is always useful

for keeping an eye on kids or chatting with company while

tinkering in the kitchen.

I'm a sucker for sheepskin and soft materials.

Bet most of children's rooms don't look like this.  

But it's fantastic isn't it?  Elegant, cozy and simple.

Convertible crib into a miniature bed and a fantastic map of the world

above.  I grew up with a map on my wall as well and loved it.  It helped

me greatly improve my geography and since I love travel, I love sticking

pins in the places I've been and look forward to new places to visit every

year.

Here you can see how minimalistic it is - but the bed looks comfortable.
