Living Room Designs and Sofa Picks by Miles REdd

 

  Miles Redd is a New York City based designer who is one of the top designers 

of the contemporary era in myhumble opinion.  I'd have him pick out my sofa, 

color and fabric to cover the sofa any day.  This is exactly what this post about, 

a look at living space that Miles Redd has designed and with a focus on the

sofa designs he has used.  This red tufted corner sofa sits in Miles Redd's own

living space.

 

 Many of you know that I love tufted furniture so I am totally gaga over this sofa.

 

 His sofas are usually covered in soft velvet or other fabrics that are 

luxurious and soft.  The sofas look super comfortable in addition

to looking pretty.  That's the issue for me - I see a lot of sofas that

are pretty but aren't always what one would consider to be "super"

comfortable.  The sofas that Miles Redd uses in his living room 

designs somehow fulfill all aspects of function, aesthetics and

comfort.

 

Here's another couch I would Love!  The tufted couch looks very

comfortable and soft.  Looks like the perfect place to lounge and 

watch tv from.

 

 

 

You can see that Miles Redd also favors tufted sofas and chairs.

I love that he painted this entire room in high gloss paint.

 

 

 This is one porch where I could totally curl up on the couch

and read or nap.  The sofa looks like it's filled feathers.

Make an Art Project out of Painting a Chair

Since we're on the subject of outdoor spaces, why not do a post on 

creative outdoor chairs?  It's amazing what just paint can do to a room

or a chair in this case.  I'm not artist but stencils and other tricks make

painting or decorating a chair fun an easy.

You can take any sort of outdoor seating and spruce it up.

As such.  It doesn't need to be perfect and it can really

add some pizazz to a set of tables or chairs.

All you need is an outdoor space where you can spray paint, either some 

paint brushes or the proper type of paint or spray paint and some tools to 

help you paint such as tape or stencils just to name a couple of examples. 

There are a lot of things around the house that one can use as a stencil such 

as paper doilies, lace, cut outs or more.  You can make your own as well 

by cutting out shapes with thick paper.

This one has a particularly summer feel to it with the fruit.

It's hard to go wrong with stripes.

Polk a Dots perhaps?

Or bring out the inner artist in you.

Even plastic chairs?  Why not?

I always love a large scale focus or motif.  

Hope this post and these examples have inspired you to make your own

art project out of an outdoor chair.  Definitely a way to have fun and

Traditional French Upholstery ~ L'Atelier du Cap Gris-Nez

I posted about Pascale's wonderful workshop
about a year ago. It's definitely time to revisit
the work she's done since then. To recap, Pascale
owns her own upholstery shop in France. She uses
the traditional methods of upholstery and does
absolutely beautiful work. Her workshop is called

L'Atelier du Cap Gris-Nez.

Pascale is here hard at work in her workshop.

The fabric on this chair is simply gorgeous.

This chair looks traditional and a little
run of the mill until you see what is
used as the fabric.

Who would have thought to just use lace
on the back of the chair? This chair
definitely belongs into a sultry boudoir
if I may say so myself. Absolute genius.

Some fun play with polk-a-dots.

Velvet striping, how luxurious.

I especially love the plum tones.

Can't beat antique french furniture.

How gorgeous is that?

This is an old telephone bench. Here's the before photo.

After everything has been stripped off.

Now that it's been painted, the fabric goes on.

What a transformation!

Simply dramatic and gorgeous.

Last but not least, a vivid purple chair.

Chair Nook Inspirations (Reading Nook)

I thought I would end the week with Chair Nook or Reading
Nook inspirations. A favorite past time of mine is to read.
It's hard balancing all of those books and television series
I'm watching! But there's nothing like snuggling up under a
warm and fuzzy blanket in a comfortable chair on a Friday
night to read. Oh and a cup of hot tea of course.

I particularly love the nook above - it comes from a cottage
by the sea kind of feel. The Turquoise frames really pop
against the white background.

I was never really drawn to green until about a
year ago. It's quite a soothing and fresh color.

If you like Scandinavian furniture, here's a

and stacks of magazines.

This gorgeous chair is covered in custom fabric
by Angele Parlange. She took actual samples
of writing from old stationary from her ancestors
and created this fabric with it. Simply gorgeous.
I've always had a thing for words and writing in
design.

I bought this book a couple years ago and it is one of my
favorite books for inspirations. Angele Parlange is a designer
with deep family history in New Orleans. I highly recommend
this book - it's got history, a lovely house and beautiful inspirations
from Angele Parlange.
