For the first time in my life I want it to stop snowing.....
It has been snowing like crazy in the United Kingdom and even though the landscape has never been prettier....and we all know I love the pretty....the snow is creating havoc for all those trying to get away for Christmas. As I sit cosily in France amongst the Christmas decorations and with thoughts of holiday preparations on my mind, thousands of others wait expectantly at airports and train stations or sit confined in their vehicles trapped on the snow laden motorways....including my DD's and GB working in London. The thought of a Christmas celebration without them is heartbreaking and I feel sure that all mothers would agree with me. Again I am reminded of our vulnerability against the elements and our dependency on air travel to allow us to live this global life that we have become accustomed to.
I am trying every which way to make sure that our children make it home...days spent on the internet making and breaking reservations....hours glued in front of the BBC trying to predict which airports will be open and which won't....and endless searching of weather websites....not my strong point...I am hopeful my GB will make it tonight and the DD's tomorrow...but every hour the weather conditions change and with that comes the news that flights and trains are to be cancelled.
So clouds please stop this snowing...save it for later...or dump it where the snow ploughs, plough...or even better...off piste in the mountains where the brave dare to go. Friends and families should be together at Christmas time, anticipated holidays should not end in disappointment and camping out in airports is not meant to be endured. xv
