New York Fashion Week: Sex and the City Style

This morning as I perused the new Spring / Summer 2009 Collections from New York Fashion week, I found that in addition to finding things that I personally loved, I kept having things that just screamed "Carrie!", "Charlotte!", "Samantha!", and "Miranda!" at me. Blame it on my poor, worn out Sex and the City DVDs. Since rumors are swirling that a sequel to the Sex and the City movie will eventually be made (yea!), I thought it would be fun (before I spent six hours working on this) to put together some looks for the girls from the new collections, as we all know that they would certainly attend all of the important shows. It's been fun! I guess this is my adult version of playing with paper dolls. I hope you enjoy the looks I put together if the Sex and the City sequel were set in the Spring / Summer of 2009!
Each filmstrip below should show four looks. Please click on the pictures if you only see two. I really hate blogger right now. First, every picture disappeared when I published this post, despite the fact that they showed up in the preview. Now, I see all four pictures per strip in the preview, but only two show up once it's published. I've spent over an hour trying to fix it. I'm so sorry! I worked really hard on this and promise the looks are worth clicking on the pictures!
Looks for Carrie Bradshaw
We all know that Carrie is the perennial fashion addict of the group. She lives, eats, and breathes fashion! Now that she is a little older, she has toned it down just a bit, by her own admission. However, she isn't afraid to take risks. Carrie's look can't be constrained to one particular style, as she is a true chameleon. These looks either reminded me of things she's worn in the past or just looked like "her".
1. Proenza Schouler, 2. Oscar de la Renta, 3. Monique Lhuillier, 4. Tory Burch
Looks for Charlotte York-Goldenblatt
Charlotte's aesthetic is ultra-feminine and quite chic. She always looks polished, never sloppy, as she is the consummate lady. Charlotte loves feminine details and often favors an A-line silhouette to complement her hour glass shape.

1. Oscar de la Renta, 2. Barbara Tfank, 3. L'Wren Scott, 4. Oscar de la Renta

1. Monique Lhuillier, 2. Rebecca Taylor, 3. Nanette Lepore, Tory Burch
Looks for Samantha Jones
Samantha's wardrobe reflects her personality: sexy, sultry, commanding. Now that she and Smith are no longer together, Samantha is on the prowl again! The looks I put together for her are sleek and form-fitting to show off her amazing figure. Though some are appropriate for her career as a high-powered publicist, but honestly...how often does she leave anything to the imagination?
1. Vivienne Tam, 2. Rock & Republic, 3. Costello Tagliapietra, 4. Hervé Leger by Max Azria
Looks for Miranda Hobbes
Miranda's style has progressed the most since the first couple of seasons of Sex and the City. Do you remember the awful pant suits and hideous overalls they put her in at the beginning? Though Miranda's job as a partner at a corporate law firm requires her to dress conservatively most of the time, she has really taken to wearing more feminine silhouettes and often draws attention to her waist.
1. Victoria Beckham, 2. Rachel Roy, 3. Tuleh, 4. Carolina Herrera

New York Magazine: "Sarah Jessica Parker Would Like a Few Words With Carrie Bradshaw"

Sarah Jessica Parker appears on the current cover of New York Magazine. I've always loved her for being so genuine, intelligent, and articulate. This article further solidifies my admiration for her. It's a great read, but consider yourself forewarned. There is a spoiler for the Sex and the City movie about half way through.

Can a girl give away too much?

Popsugar has posted a brand new Sex and the City movie trailer. This one is longer than the first, but it gives away many of the plot lines, so watch at your own risk. I am kind of shocked that they would give up so much of the movie. Has the studio not learned anything from Charlotte? A girl should keep her "audience" waiting and shouldn't give so much away so soon. If you decide to watch, let me know what you think about Carrie and Big, Miranda and Steve, Charlotte's new family, and Samantha and Smith.
Meanwhile, check out what Patricia Field has to say about how each girl's style has evolved and what she has planned for the movie's wardrobe in this USA Today Article.

More from the Sex and the City Movie

Anyhow, there is a flashback scene in the upcoming SATC movie which features the girls in what I presume to be their early twenties. MiraJeff happened to study at NYU with the beautiful girl who plays the young Carrie. Aside from the way they are styled, I don't think any of the girls look much like their characters, though they are super cute. What do you think? Mini-Samantha is cracking me up! Personally, I would have loved to have seen a young Stanford Blatch and Anthony Marantino.

Great News from the set of the Sex and the City Movie

So, you may have heard about the possibility that there might be two more Sex and the City movies. Well, I have it on good authority from a behind the scenes source that two sequels are in fact, in the works!!!

Sex and the City: Personal Decorating Style

Carrie's apartment is a complete reflection of her personality- eclectic, stylish, scattered, and very New York. It is a small, one bedroom apartment. While it is stylish, it is evident that it plays second-fiddle to her love of clothes and shoes. Unlike the apartments of the other three SATC girls, Carrie's doesn't feel "done". Carrie wears her heart on her sleeve and her apartment follows suit. Everything is out in the open. Nothing is hidden away. Her magazines are meticulously archived in her entry way, but the rest of the apartment feels very lived-in. The majority of her furnishings look like flea-market finds, but her showpiece is most definitely her closet, painted in a beautiful blue-grey hue. It is the part of the apartment that she has given the most thought to and has spent the most on. After all, the girl did say she likes her money where she can see it...hanging in her closet.

Charlotte's Park Avenue apartment is classic, chic, and feminine just like her. It is filled with traditional furnishings and a subdued color palette composed mostly of beige, white, and pink. It is a huge space, especially by New York standards and that is evident in the apartment. Most of the rooms open into one another, so you are aware of the apartment's grand scale from any perspective in the space. Take the bed that Charlotte fought so hard for when she revamped the apartment from Bunny's former look of duck decoys and plaid. The bed is so huge, that special nightstands had to be built just to stand up to its size. Overall, the space has a very romantic feel, despite its history.

Miranda lived in a beautiful apartment on Manhattan's Upper West Side before she and Steve moved their family to Brooklyn. It is obvious that she had help from a decorator, as she is always busy with work. Plus, we all remember the episode in season 2 in which her decorator gets engaged to the guy she wanted for herself. Who could forget those hideous frogs? Miranda's apartment isn't rough around the edges. As a matter of fact, it looks quite polished. However, it could be described as hard around the edges. Take the star burst mirror above the fireplace or her metal bed, for example. Like Miranda, they have cold, hard edges. Everyone knows that she tends to be blunt and is not one to mince her words. Yet those who know her, know that she has a big heart and a playful side. The multi-colored back splash in her kitchen seems to reflect that.

Samantha's apartment in the meatpacking district is totally her- sexy with an edge. The color palette is completely in tune with her personality. The bed is dressed in fire engine red, naturally. It's the color of passion, which Samantha has plenty of, yet her kitchen is a cool blue color. In my opinion, this is perfectly fitting because it reflects the fact that she has a very cool exterior and doesn't usually allow herself to get too involved with the men in her life. Of the four apartments, it is the space I like the least.

If I were to look at these spaces objectively and had no idea that they were from my favorite show, I would probably like Charlotte's or Miranda's the most, though I would make changes to both. Which space appeals to you the most? What part of your home reflects your personality the most?

You are cordially invited to...

Could it be? Are Carrie and Big getting married in the new Sex and the City movie?!? I never thought they would actually do it since they aren't exactly the marrying kind. I'm not sure how I feel about seeing all of these images from filming. Part of me is excited to see them, but it kind of ruins the surprise.

The Long-Awaited Sex and the City Movie

Did Charlotte and Harry's long-awaited baby finally arrive? Are Samantha and Smith still together? How do Miranda and Steve like living in Brooklyn? How old is Brady now? And of course, the question everyone wants answered...what happened with Carrie and Big? Are they still together? From the look of this picture, which was taken during filming yesterday, I'd say that their chemistry is still sizzling. The movie is slated to hit theaters on May 30, 2008.
Update: Charlotte's pregnant in the movie!!!
