sunday afternoon and 'conversations with my gardener'...

Sunday afternoon....the house is quiet....not too quiet but just the right quiet....

The children, I call them 'the children' are outside lazing by the pool; they are not children but adults. My GB (gorgeous boy) and his friends are happy to wile away some hours in each other's company. It's hot... so hot... one of the hottest days.... Mr FF and I don't want to intrude so stay inside. They would never think of us as an intrusion or persona non-gratis, they are too old for that, but there are times when like age needs to be with like age...it works better that way...

That brings me to talk about a film…. hot Sunday afternoons are perfect for film watching.... better still when you can watch a film of your choice.... those who would normally choose are outside.... a film with subtitles called Conversations with my Gardener.... This would be one of the loveliest movies I have watched in a long time. French of course, emotional bien sur and visually arresting, mais oui....

Dialogue avec mon Jardinier is the simple story of two childhood friends who meet up in later life; one is a retired railway worker whose passion is gardening, the other is an artist whose passion is woman. They meet when the gardener comes to create a potager at the artist's country home. Their rapport is instantaneous - memories of shared schoolroom pranks cross all socio-economic barriers. This film is simply a conversation between two very different men. The outcome is that they both benefit from each other's learning.

Friendship knows no boundaries and wisdom is not only reserved for the educated and the privileged. The best life lessons often come from those one least expects. This film is a gentle reminder to take notice of those who might well be taken for granted and to recognize that the simplest of thoughts can often be the most complex of insights....xv.
