Princess Diana 1960-1997

Today marks the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana's tragic death. She will always be remembered for her beauty, grace, and incredibly giving spirit.

Bold Moves

One thing I think people over look in home decor is making a bold statement. I have noticed in pictures I'm drawn to, its often a focal point or a bold move that strikes me the most. When people have small spaces, they can be timid about using focal points. A big painting, a bold color, a cool sink, all of these things can add up to one great looking room, no matter what its size!

1 Down, 35 To Go

The first week of school is almost over! I hate to actually say this because I'm afraid that I'll jinx myself, but so far my kids are pretty good. I have a couple that I'm sure will get on my nerves, but they are a great group for the most part. I'm very excited that I am teaching Spanish 4 AP this year, but nervous at the same time. I don't have anything funny to report back yet, but you may find it amusing that I have breakfast, I mean lunch at 10:18 am! Here are a few pictures of my classroom:

Ball Chair

Ball Chair by Eero Aarnio 1966

I'm not sure if I love or hate this Ball chair!!! It's still going strong in the market since 1966! and very popular, some say that it's not even comfortable, others say that it gives a needed dramatic shock if used properly. What do you think?

Stylish Storage

Small space is all about storage planning. The first thing I consider is do I want open or closed storage. If what I'm storing is not pretty or interesting to look at, I go with closed storage. For the most part, I opt for closed, its easier to cram stuff in when you have people coming over on short notice! I do have open storage in my office. There I find I can be a bit more creative and practical all at the same time.

Weathered Wood

Weathered wood is one of those trends I bet some people thought would die a early death. Some of my friends do not like the look at all. If done right, and in the right place, I think it looks great. A room full of it is too much for me. I love the texture it can add to home decor. The top picture would make my mother in law break out the paint cans, but I really like how it looks!

Coffee With George

What else ?!

Sun in a Jar

Gift of the Year 2007 Award

Made with a traditional Mason jar and high tech energy efficient lighting! Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar.

Prime

There are a few movies that I watch every time they are on TV. Hitch and The Devil Wears Prada come to mind. I know them backwards and forwards and have memorized most of the lines. They aren't examples of any particular cinematic achievement, but what can I say? They make me feel good. Watching them makes me happy.

Another one of my "watch it every time HBO airs it" favorites is Prime, starring Uma Thurman, Meryl Streep, and the adorable Bryan Greenberg. If you haven't seen it, Streep plays Lisa Metzger, a therapist and Thurman is her patient, Rafi, who has just gone through a divorce. Rafi eventually starts dating David Bloomberg, played by Greenberg. Aside from the fact that Rafi is 37 and David is 23, their relationship is further complicated by the fact that David turns out to be the therapist's son.

The movie has some funny moments, but I can't decide what I love most about it. The film is set in New York , primarily SoHo, Greenwich Village, and the Upper West Side. It just feels very "New York" to me. Rafi has a very cute wardrobe and gorgeous apartment, which I love seeing. I also love the fabulous soundtrack which includes John Coltrane, Rufus Wainwright, Ray LaMontagne, Notorious B.I.G., and Rachael Yamagata. Oh, and there's also the fact that Bryan Greenberg is pretty damn hot. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do. Who knows, you may end up watching it several dozen times like I have.

This One Is for Mahmood :)

Treille is a system of cylindrical vases, horizontally aligned and connected by nylon belts and height-adjustable painted stainless steel tutors. A stair set can be created, made of three containers, to hang from the ceiling or from a wall. The greenery placed in the cylindrical vases finds an easy support to develop and grow vertically up to completely cover the container.

HGTV Rate a Room

I'm sure most of you have seen rate a room on the HGTV website. I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand, I love seeing how regular people decorate. There are some really talented people out there. Some of the comments are down right mean! I'm all for constructive criticism, but yikes! Here are a few rooms I thought were done very nicely. Do you have a favorite rate a room?
